BBSI now serves as a vital bridge between medical knowledge and public awareness, focusing on three essential goals:
As a surgical nurse, William witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of button battery ingestion in children – a preventable tragedy that can cause severe injury or death within just hours. What he saw in the operating room on multiple occasions revealed an urgent truth: many parents, caregivers, and even healthcare providers were unaware of the grave dangers these small, commonplace batteries posed. This revelation sparked a mission. In 2024, William founded the Button Battery Safety Initiative (BBSI) to address this critical gap in public awareness. What began as one healthcare provider’s response to a preventable crisis has grown into a dedicated organization committed to protecting children through education and advocacy.
